Ghana’s Crypto Sandbox Signals Regulatory Leap As Major Firms Join
Ghana has launched its inaugural cryptocurrency regulatory sandbox, marking a significant step in formalizing digital asset oversight. Eleven companies, including Hyro Exchange, Koinkoin, and Blockchain.com, will test services under the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act of 2025 during this 12-month pilot.
The initiative, jointly supervised by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Bank of Ghana, aims to create a transparent framework for exchanges, tokenization platforms, and custodial services. Successful participants may secure full licenses within six months, accelerating Ghana’s integration into the global crypto economy.
This sandbox represents one of West Africa’s most structured attempts to balance innovation with consumer protection. Insights from the program will shape final licensing requirements, potentially establishing Ghana as a regional hub for compliant digital asset activity.
